Performance for the Camera: Reenacting Art Historical Paintings through the Photographic Medium 


For grades 9 - 12



Course Description:

The first part of the immersion class will involve lectures on the history of art and discussions about readings in art theory, as well as field trips to the permanent collections of several Los Angeles museums ( LACMA, MOCA, the Getty) and a few contemporary galleries , where we will have a chance to speak with artists and curators. The second part of the class will be used to recreate and reenact art historical paintings and sculptures by building set designs, creating costumes and using professional lighting and make-up. Using a range of different media, we will recreate painting tableaus and sculptural forms through photographic imagery. This class is designed for students interested in art history, curatorial, visual art, set/lighting design, fashion and photography.
